Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment in our manufacturing facility. This position supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs to prevent workplace injuries, ensure regulatory compliance (primarily OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General Industry standards), and cultivate a proactive safety culture among all employees, contractors, and visitors.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, and able to collaborate effectively with production teams, maintenance, engineering, and leadership to identify hazards, implement controls, and drive safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments of the manufacturing floor, warehouses, maintenance areas, and support facilities to identify unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or procedural gaps.
  • Develop, update, and implement facility-specific safety policies, procedures, and programs (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Trucks, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, PPE, and Emergency Action Plans).
  • Lead and/or coordinate new hire safety orientations, ongoing employee safety training, and certification programs (including forklift, crane, LOTO, and other job-specific training).
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents; perform root cause analysis; document findings; recommend and track corrective/preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate OSHA injury/illness records (OSHA 300 logs), workers' compensation documentation, safety training records, inspection reports, and other required compliance documentation.
  • Serve as a key member of the facility safety committee; facilitate monthly safety meetings, share best practices, and promote employee involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations; prepare for and participate in OSHA inspections, internal audits, and third-party assessments.
  • Assist in the development and execution of emergency response drills (fire, evacuation, medical, chemical spill) and coordinate with local emergency services as needed.
  • Promote safety awareness through campaigns, signage, toolbox talks, safety bulletins, and recognition programs.
  • Collaborating with production supervisors and departments leads to integrate safety into daily operations and continuous improvement efforts (e.g., lean manufacturing or Kaizen events).
  • Track key safety metrics (incident rates, near-miss reports, training completion, audit findings) and report performance to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall facility EHS goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
  • 2–5+ years of progressive safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience with OSHA General Industry standards and common manufacturing hazards (machinery, chemicals, ergonomics, material handling, etc.).
Certifications (preferred or required within first year):
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification
  • OSHA Authorized Trainer (e.g., OSHA 501) a strong plus
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Additional relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Hazardous Materials, Forklift Trainer)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers' compensation processes, and industrial safety best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to train diverse groups and influence behavior change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety data sheets (SDS), blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, varying temperatures, and production hazards (proper PPE provided and required).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods on the plant floor.
  • Occasional climbing of stairs/ladders, bending, lifting (up to 25–50 lbs), and working in confined spaces.
  • Must pass a post-offer physical exam and drug screening.
