Description

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineering Supervisor owns both quality system execution and frontline team leadership within an injection molding manufacturing environment. This role is accountable for driving consistent product and process quality across three shifts while maintaining alignment to customer, regulatory, and internal standards. The position blends hands-on quality engineering, metrology oversight, and operational supervision, with the objective to reduce risk, improve capability, and sustain compliance. Success in this role requires strong technical depth, leadership presence on the floor, and the ability to influence cross-functional outcomes.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Quality Technicians across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts, including staffing, scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Own execution of inspection strategies, including incoming, in-process, and final product verification to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Manage customer product qualifications, validation activities, and associated regulatory documentation.
  • Oversee metrology systems, including method development, calibration, maintenance, and capability of measurement equipment (CMM, optical systems, gauges).
  • Serve as primary escalation point for customer complaints and internal quality issues; drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Partner with other departments to improve process capability, reduce scrap, and support new product launches.
  • Analyze quality data, identify trends, and implement control strategies to improve performance and mitigate risk.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality systems (JL Clark Quality Manual), SQF requirements, and customer-specific standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures, inspection plans, and standardized work instructions.
  • Support internal and external audits; lead audit readiness and corrective action follow-up.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support production, quality, safety, and operational needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage a multi-shift team of Quality Technicians, ensuring consistent execution of inspection and testing processes.
  • Establish work schedules, assign priorities, and provide technical direction and coaching.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, drive accountability, and implement development plans.
  • Address employee relations matters, including corrective actions, in alignment with company policies.
  • Ensure effective communication and handoffs between shifts to maintain continuity of quality coverage.
  • Maintain active floor presence to support troubleshooting, decision-making, and escalation management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operations.

Safety, Housekeeping & Teamwork

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times.
  • Participate in internal audits or meetings as required.
  • Communicate effectively with teams and supervisors regarding quality, production flow, and issues requiring attention.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts within the organization.
  • Serve as a primary resource for new and existing team members, providing guidance, answering questions and reinforcing safe work practices.

Education, Training & Experience:

Minimum Education:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Quality, Industrial Technology, or related technical field

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering, Quality, or related discipline)

Experience:

  • 5+ years in a Quality or Engineering role within manufacturing (injection molding preferred)
  • 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience

Core Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Infor, SPC, FMEA, 8D, Root Cause Analysis, and Control Plans
  • Working knowledge of PPAP, ISO/IATF standards, SQF, HACCP, and metrology systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with data-driven decision making
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence outcomes across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multi-shift operations and maintain off-shift accountability

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment with significant time spent on the production floor
  • Exposure to moving machinery, elevated noise levels, and variable temperatures
  • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses and hearing protection
  • Standard schedule aligned to day shift, with responsibility across all three shifts; off-shift and weekend coverage required based on business demand
