Job Summary
The Pre-Coat Patching Machine Operator at J&M Plating plays a critical role in the production process by operating the pre-coat patching machine and ensuring the quality of the coated products. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate machinery efficiently. The Operator is responsible for setting up and running the machine and inspecting the coated products to meet quality standards..
Duties/Responsibilities
- Machine Operation:
- Prepare the pre-coat solution according to company and customer guidelines.
- Set up and calibrate the pre-coat patching machine according to product specifications.
- Operate the machine to apply coatings to metal products, ensuring consistent and accurate application.
- Monitor machine performance and adjust as needed to maintain optimal production.
- Product Inspection:
- Inspect coated products for defects, irregularities, and adherence to quality standards.
- Identify and address any issues affecting product quality or machine operation.
- Ensure that products meet visual and dimensional requirements before proceeding to the next stage.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform basic routine maintenance tasks on the machine, such as cleaning, descaling, and replacing worn parts.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and collaborate with maintenance personnel for repairs when necessary.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of production output, machine settings, and any quality-related information.
- Complete production reports and documentation as required by the company's procedures.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Utilize the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to manage chemicals and fumes.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including those related to quality control and machine operation.
The employer may require an employee to perform other duties as assigned on a temporary and infrequent basis.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate machinery effectively.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for detecting product defects and irregularities.
- Basic troubleshooting skills to address minor machine issues and perform routine maintenance.
- Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and quality standards accurately.
- Strong communication skills to report issues and collaborate with team members.
- Ability to manage and work on a computer.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Use of logic and reasoning to identify improvement opportunities and alternatives.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide to calculate the correct weight for each load.
Education and Experiences
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using computers.
- Prior experience in machine operation or manufacturing is preferred.
- Training or certification in machine operation is a plus.
- Experience working in a manufacturing company preferred.
- Forklift license preferred
