Greater Rockford Airport Authority is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance operations of the airport. The ideal candidate will have experience in several areas of airport maintenance including but not limited to: pavement maintenance, airfield lighting and markings, building maintenance, equipment maintenance, and groundskeeping. This position will primarily work and supervise second-shift employees.

Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) is ranked as the 12th largest airport in the United States for air cargo with more than 3.4 billion pounds of landed weight in 2025. The Airport is home to the second-largest UPS hub in North America and is a major base of operations for Amazon Air. The Airport campus encompasses an aviation maintenance repair facility (AAR) as well as other aircraft maintenance operations capable of servicing next-generation aircraft. Additionally, RFD has direct domestic and international passenger flights which further strengthens the airport as a key transportation hub to the region.

Responsibilities

Supervises maintenance personnel and coordinates departmental activities related to airside and landside operations, communications systems, operational safety, and security functions.

Plans/schedules maintenance tasks/projects and assigns crews. Coordinates with airport tenants, customers, and the Operations Department to ensure minimal disruptions and adjusts for emergency and inclement weather responses.

Solves questions and problems in the field as they occur either through technical knowledge or by contact with outside technical support services.

Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of Airport processes and procedures; identifies and recommends alternatives to improve efficiency and compliance with all regulations.

Works a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the Authority, and responds to emergency and other non-routine operational matters outside of normal business hours.

Actively promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and regulatory compliance consistent with FAA expectations and airport policies.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience supervising staff and coordinating maintenance and construction projects. Airport experience is preferred.

Skill in planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluation the work of programs and staff through subordinate supervision.

Knowledge of computerized maintenance systems (CMMS), environmental control/building automating systems, and ability to trouble shoot similar systems and equipment.

Able to read and interpret surveys, technical drawings and data, construction documents and as-built drawings. Resolves technical/mechanical problems.

Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing using both technical and non-technical language both internally and for the public and media on occasion.

Proficient in principles and practices of developing teams, motivating employees, and managing in a team environment.

Adept in various mechanical and heavy equipment operation.

Must be able to satisfactorily meet and maintain STA and CHRC background check requirements. Must satisfactorily complete AOA driver training.
